I made this work because I wanted to try out the idea of floating images in midair that had come to me when making Thunder. The entire work was shot frame-by-frame with long exposures. I filmed this in the company dorm I was living in in the middle of the night after I had come home from work, and thought I might die from what had become my daily pattern of sleeping for two hours in the morning then going off to work.

Where it came from
Released in 1990, Ghost was directed by Jerry Zucker and written by Bruce Joel Rubin, emerging during a period when supernatural romantic dramas were finding significant success in mainstream Hollywood. The film was conceived as a exploration of grief and the persistence of love, grounded in a suspense-thriller narrative that contrasted the ethereal nature of the afterlife with the gritty reality of urban crime in New York City.
The production design and visual effects, particularly the iconic pottery wheel scene, were orchestrated to balance intimate human connection with otherworldly tension. Upon release, the film became a cultural phenomenon, praised for its chemistry between leads Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore, and it remains a defining example of early 1990s popular cinema, largely credited with revitalizing the romantic fantasy genre.
