Ginga Hyouryuu Vifam: Atsumatta 13-nin

Ginga Hyouryuu Vifam: Atsumatta 13-nin, released in 1984, serves as an epilogue to the original television series Ginga Hyouryuu Vifam, which concluded earlier that same year. Produced by Sunrise and directed by Takeyuki Kanda, the OVA was created to satisfy fan demand for a proper conclusion to the story of the children castaways following their return to Earth. The production maintains the core creative vision of the series, focusing on the character-driven narrative and the interpersonal dynamics of the group after their traumatic ordeal.

The character designs for the series and this OVA were handled by Toyoo Ashida, who was instrumental in defining the show's distinct, approachable aesthetic that distinguished it from the more militaristic mecha series of the era. The OVA was well-received by the dedicated audience of the series, functioning as a poignant send-off that allowed viewers to see the protagonists transition back into civilian life. It is often cited by collectors as a quintessential example of the 1980s OVA boom, where successful television shows were extended through direct-to-video specials.
