Ginga Hyouryuu Vifam: Kieta 12-nin

Ginga Hyouryuu Vifam: Kieta 12-nin, released in 1985, serves as a direct follow-up to the 1983-1984 Sunrise television series Ginga Hyouryuu Vifam. Produced during a period when the studio was refining the 'real robot' genre, the OVA was created to address the narrative gap between the series finale and the show's epilogue. It functions as a bridge, focusing on the challenges faced by the young protagonists as they navigate their return to normalcy after the grueling events of the primary conflict.

The production maintains the visual identity established by character designer Toyoo Ashida, whose style emphasized expressive, approachable character models that departed from the more rigid designs prevalent in contemporary mecha anime. Directed by Takeyuki Kanda, the OVA was received as a respectful and necessary capstone by the dedicated fanbase, providing a grounded character study that favored personal growth and group dynamics over the typical action-heavy spectacles of the mid-eighties robot genre.
