Where it came from
Glass Fleet: The Legend of the Wind of the Universe was produced by Studio GONZO and released in 2006 as a 26-episode science fiction anime series. Created by creative director Shinichiro Ueda and writer Junki Takegami, the project aimed to blend space opera aesthetics with rococo-inspired character designs and baroque sensibilities, moving away from the gritty, mechanical focus typical of the genre at the time.
The series is noted for its visual departure from traditional science fiction, utilizing a distinct aesthetic palette that emphasized ornate, opulent environments and costume design. While it attempted a unique narrative scale, critical reception was mixed, with many viewers finding the unconventional fusion of historical-era visual flair and high-concept space conflict to be a polarizing element of the production.
