Where it came from
Released in 2013 by the animation studio DLE, this film serves as a parodic spin-off of the legendary shojo manga Glass no Kamen, created by Suzue Miuchi. Produced during a period when DLE was known for its distinctively minimalist, Flash-animated comedic shorts, the movie reinterprets the dramatic intensity of the original series through a lens of absurd humor and tropes common to low-budget animation.
The film was directed by Ichiro Kita, who leaned heavily into the self-deprecating style that defined the studio's adaptation work. By shifting the central characters into an espionage-themed narrative, the production sought to lampoon the overly serious tone of the source material. It was received primarily as a niche curiosity, appealing to fans of the original saga who appreciated seeing the iconic characters placed in an intentionally ridiculous and stylistically jarring environment.
