Where it came from
Glass no Kamen Desu ga Z is a 2013 comedic spin-off series produced by DLE Inc. that serves as a parody of the legendary shoujo manga Glass Mask by Suzue Miuchi. The production was commissioned to promote the original series while leaning into DLE’s signature Flash animation style, which emphasizes absurdist humor and minimalist visuals to subvert the intense, melodramatic tone of the source material.
The series focuses on reimagining the iconic protagonists Maya Kitajima and Ayumi Himekawa within a modern, comedic office setting, effectively satirizing the tropes of the theater world that defined the original manga. It was received by fans as a lighthearted, self-aware tribute, highlighting the enduring cultural impact of the original series by playfully stripping away its gravity and replacing it with erratic, fast-paced situational comedy.
