Where it came from
Magic Bus released the film Glass Rabbit in 2005, directed by Setsuko Shibuichi. The production is an animated adaptation of the autobiographical novel by Toshiko Katsura, which recounts her harrowing experiences as a young girl in Tokyo during the final months of World War II, specifically focusing on the firebombings of March 1945.
The film's aesthetic was designed to capture the innocence of childhood against a backdrop of historical trauma, utilizing a restrained animation style to honor the source material's somber tone. It was intended primarily as an educational and reflective piece, receiving recognition in Japan for its commitment to preserving the memory of the civilian experience during wartime.
