Green Snake

Green Snake, released in 2021 as White Snake 2: Green Snake, was produced by Light Chaser Animation as a direct sequel to their 2019 feature White Snake. The film serves as a reinterpretation of the classic Chinese folktale The Legend of the White Snake, shifting the narrative focus from the titular White Snake to her younger sister, Xiaoqing. It emerged from the studio's broader initiative to modernize traditional Chinese mythology through high-end computer-generated imagery, aiming to blend classical motifs with contemporary, stylized action aesthetics.

The film was directed by Amp Wong and sought to explore themes of modern independence and resilience within a fantasy framework. Visually, the production team departed from the traditional period-piece aesthetics of its predecessor, opting for a dystopian urban setting known as Asura City to mirror the protagonist's internal struggle. Upon release, the film was noted for its ambitious animation sequences and its bold, non-traditional narrative arc, receiving recognition for pushing the boundaries of stylistic storytelling in the domestic Chinese animation industry.
