Where it came from
Gugumi-chan is a short-form animated series produced by the Japanese creative studio ODDJOB, released in 2022. The project emerged from the studio's interest in blending traditional cel-animation aesthetics with surreal, minimalist storytelling, characteristic of their experimental approach to digital media and music video production.
The character design and visual direction lean into a nostalgic, lo-fi aesthetic designed to evoke a sense of quiet whimsy. By stripping away complex narrative structures in favor of fleeting, atmospheric vignettes, ODDJOB aimed to create an accessible, bite-sized viewing experience that functions as a rhythmic study of character personality rather than a conventional plot-driven series.
