Haiyoru! Nyaruani: Remember My Mr. Lovecraft

Haiyoru! Nyaruani: Remember My Mr. Lovecraft was produced by DLE Inc. in 2011 as a sequel series to the original flash-animated shorts based on the light novel series Haiyore! Nyaruko-san. The series was designed to lean into the absurdist, parodic tone of the source material, which reimagines H.P. Lovecraft's cosmic horror entities—specifically Nyarlathotep—as anime-style characters. The show utilizes a distinct Flash-animation aesthetic that was characteristic of DLE's output during this period, prioritizing quick-witted gag humor over elaborate production values.

The series served as a bridge between the early experimental shorts and the more polished television adaptations that followed. By leaning heavily into references and meta-humor regarding literary horror tropes, it found a niche audience among fans of Japanese light novel adaptations. While its minimalist visual style was initially polarizing for viewers expecting a high-budget action series, it remains a notable example of the trend in early 2010s internet-culture-adjacent anime that relied on rapid-fire dialogue and satirical deconstructions of classic horror iconography.
