Where it came from
Heart and Yummie was released in 2010 as an animated short produced by Studio Graphinica. The project serves as an adaptation of the popular children's picture book series by author and illustrator Tatsuya Miyanishi, which explores themes of friendship and empathy between a carnivorous dinosaur and an herbivore. The film was created to translate Miyanishi’s distinctive, rough-hewn illustration style into a motion format, maintaining the emotional weight and stark color palette that define the original literary work.
The animation direction focused on capturing the tactile feel of the source material's brushstrokes and minimalist compositions. Upon its release, the film was noted for its departure from standard high-gloss anime aesthetics, opting instead for a more artistic, storybook-oriented visual language. It was well-received by fans of the source material for its faithful representation of the heartwarming narrative and remains a recognizable entry in the broader library of adaptations based on Miyanishi’s Tyrannosaurus series.
