Where it came from
Here is Greenwood was released as a six-episode original video animation series between 1991 and 1993, based on the long-running shōjo manga series by Yukie Nasu. Produced by Studio Pierrot, the series captures the charm of the late eighties and early nineties academic comedy genre. It chronicles the life of Kazuya Hasukawa as he moves into the notoriously chaotic Greenwood dormitory at Ryokuto Academy, blending character-driven humor with the distinct aesthetic sensibilities common to the era's animation style.
The adaptation reflects the transition from the manga's print serialization to the animation medium, focusing on the ensemble dynamics of the dorm residents. Directed by Noriyuki Abe, the project emphasized the lighthearted and slightly eccentric tone of the source material. While it remains a niche entry in Studio Pierrot's extensive catalog, it is recognized by fans of classic anime for its faithful character designs and its role in defining the school-life comedy subgenre during the early nineties.
