Himouto! Umaru-chan

Himouto! Umaru-chan was produced by Doga Kobo and aired in 2015, adapted from the manga series by Sankaku Head. The story centers on Umaru Doma, a high school student who maintains a perfect public image while transforming into a slothful, soft-drink-loving gamer the moment she steps inside her home. The production was conceived as a lighthearted exploration of dual lives and sibling dynamics, emphasizing comedic relief through Umaru’s chibi-style transformation when she dons her signature hooded cloak.

The character design was overseen by Aya Takano, who sought to emphasize the visual contrast between Umaru's elegant school persona and her chaotic, hamster-like home state. The anime was well-received for its relatable depiction of hobbyist culture and its comedic timing, successfully capturing the exaggerated expressions of the original source material. It became a notable entry in the slice-of-life comedy genre, praised for its playful animation style and the distinct personality quirks of its cast.
