Fuki packs all her needs in a big rucksack, and sets out on a journey to look for a new house. After going through the car-jammed city, she finds a stone Jizo statue on an old, narrow path. Fuki places an apple as an offering to ask for passage and walks on. On her way, she encounters the river guardian Nurari-Hyotan, the shrine guardian Ushi-Oni, and other strange creatures one after another. What will Fuki do now?

Where it came from
House Hunting, titled 'Yadosagashi' in Japanese, was created in 2006 as a short film exclusively for the Saturn Theater at the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Tokyo. Directed by Hayao Miyazaki, the project served as an experimental vehicle for the studio to explore innovative animation techniques, specifically the integration of computer-generated imagery with traditional hand-drawn aesthetics to depict the tactile sounds of the protagonist's journey.
The film follows a young girl named Fuki who departs on a trip to find a new home, carrying all her belongings in a single backpack. Miyazaki focused the narrative on sound effects and foley, choosing to have the characters express their experiences through onomatopoeia voiced by Tamori, a famous Japanese television personality. The result is a whimsical, dialogue-free piece that emphasizes the visual and auditory rhythm of Ghibli's character-driven storytelling.
