Ritsu inherited his sixth sense from his grandfather, along with a demon guardian named Blue Storm. Strange things just seem to happen around these two, and it's left to them to get to the bottom of all these mysterious events. Each story is independent but features recurring characters you'll come to know and appreciate as they, each in their own way, try to deal with things 'not of this world'.

Where it came from
Hyakki Yakoushou, based on the long-running manga series by Ichiko Ima, centers on the life of Rise Furukaya, a man who inherits the ability to see supernatural beings known as yōkai from his late grandfather. The 2026 television adaptation produced by Imagica Infos arrives as a modern reinterpretation of the source material, which is widely revered for its atmospheric, understated approach to horror and the supernatural rather than traditional action-oriented storytelling.
The production seeks to capture the melancholic and meditative tone that defined the original manga, moving away from high-energy animation styles to emphasize character-driven narratives and the quiet intersection between the human and spirit worlds. By focusing on the emotional weight of legacy and the complexities of familial memory, the series aims to preserve the grounded, introspective essence that has kept the franchise relevant among readers for decades.
