Where it came from
Hyakko is a television anime series produced by Nippon Animation that premiered in 2008. Adapted from the web manga by the artist Haruaki Katoh, the series follows the comedic high school lives of four distinct girls attending Kamizono Academy. The project emerged during a period where web-based manga were increasingly being scouted for television adaptation, aiming to capture a demographic interested in slice-of-life humor and character-driven interactions.
The character designs were overseen by the production team at Nippon Animation, emphasizing a bright, accessible aesthetic intended to mirror the lighthearted tone of the original source material. Upon its release, the series was received as a straightforward, gentle comedy, noted primarily for its modest production style and its reliance on traditional character tropes typical of the late 2000s anime landscape.
