The Hybrid Child is an amazing android that can grow if it is lavished with enough love and care from its owner. Neither fully machine nor fully human, the various Hybrid Child models develop strong emotional bonds with their owners. This volume contains several short stories of love, sacrifice, and drama: Young Kotaro learns the importance of responsibility when his Hybrid Child's lifespan runs out. The tragic swordsman Seya learns to love again with the help of his Hybrid child, Yuzu. The final tale tells the story of Kuroda, the creator of the Hybrid Child designs, and how his lost love inspired their creation.

Where it came from
Hybrid Child is a four-episode original video animation (OVA) series produced by Studio DEEN, released in 2014. It is based on the manga by Shungiku Nakamura, a prominent creator in the Boys' Love genre. The story centers on humanoid androids known as 'Hybrid Children'—creations that grow and develop based on the emotional connection and love they receive from their owners, serving as an allegory for the maturation of human relationships and the inevitability of loss.
The adaptation was directed by Michio Fukuda, who aimed to preserve the melancholic and evocative tone of Nakamura's original work. The production was well-received by fans of the source material for its faithful visual style and emotional delivery. By focusing on the transient nature of life, the series occupies a distinct space within early 2010s anime, blending fantasy elements with deep, character-driven drama that highlights the studio's proficiency in narrative-heavy adaptations.
