I, Tsushima x Nameless Mouse

Released in 2022, this collaboration project merged the world of Opukky's popular manga 'I, Tsushima' with the distinct, silent animation style of the 'Nameless Mouse' (Nanashi no Nezumi) series by animator AQUA ARIS. The project was conceived as a lighthearted promotional ONA (Original Net Animation) to celebrate the whimsical nature of the source material, which chronicles the life of an abandoned cat who believes he is a king. By pairing the cynical, worldly-wise Tsushima with the surreal, minimalist aesthetic of the Nameless Mouse, the production aimed to offer a brief, meditative break for fans of both properties.

The creative direction for the short was spearheaded by the creator of the Nameless Mouse series, known for a signature style characterized by soft, watercolor-like textures and the absence of dialogue. The reception within the Japanese animation community was largely positive, particularly among fans of short-form digital content who appreciated the seamless integration of Tsushima’s humorous dialogue with the quiet, static-heavy visual atmosphere. It remains a notable example of cross-pollination between independent web-animation artists and established manga intellectual properties.
