If I See You in My Dreams

If I See You in My Dreams, produced by TBS and aired in 1998, is a notable entry in the Japanese television landscape of the late nineties. It was conceived during a period when late-night dramas were beginning to experiment with more complex, psychological narrative structures, moving beyond the traditional tropes of the era's standard romantic serials to explore the blurred lines between reality and subconscious desire.

The series is often cited for its atmospheric direction and its moody, introspective tone, which were deliberate choices by the production team to foster a sense of intimacy and unease. While it did not achieve mainstream blockbuster status, it garnered a dedicated following among critics and viewers who appreciated its distinct visual language and the understated, nuanced performances of its ensemble cast, cementing its place as a cult piece of 90s television.
