Ikki Tousen: Dragon Destiny

Ikki Tousen: Dragon Destiny, released in 2007, serves as the second television anime adaptation of Yuji Shiozaki's long-running manga series. Produced by studio ARMS, the series continues the narrative of high school students who are reincarnations of warriors from the Three Kingdoms period of China, engaging in constant supernatural combat. The production was overseen by director Koichi Ohata, who leaned heavily into the series' reputation for high-octane action and provocative character designs, shifting the tone slightly toward a more polished aesthetic compared to the original 2003 adaptation.

The design philosophy behind the series focused on balancing intense, stylized martial arts sequences with the fan-service-heavy character models that defined the franchise's visual identity. While the series received mixed critical reception due to its reliance on tropes and its divergence from the source material's plot, it remained a significant entry in the 2000s 'ecchi' action genre. It was produced during a period when studio ARMS was establishing itself as a key developer of mature, action-oriented animation, and the show remains a notable example of the trend toward adapting seinen manga for late-night television broadcast in Japan.
