Where it came from
I'll Just Live In Bando is a documentary film directed by Eunkyeong Jeong, exploring the unique subculture of residents inhabiting bando apartments in South Korea. The film captures a pivotal moment of transition for these structures, which were originally built as symbols of modern, middle-class urban living in the 1960s and 70s but have since aged into precarious or nostalgic relic states.
The filmmaker focuses on the intersection of architecture and human experience, documenting how residents adapt to living in spaces slated for redevelopment or decline. By grounding the narrative in the daily realities of the occupants, the film offers a quiet, observational critique of rapid urban renewal and the ephemeral nature of domestic life in the modern city.
