Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san: Nekoyama-san to Onsen Ryokou

This special episode, titled Nekoyama-san to Onsen Ryokou, was produced by DAX Production in 2014 as a direct continuation of the short-form anime series Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san. Based on the four-panel manga by Kuzushiro, the series explores the mismatched friendship between the dog-like Yachiyo Inugami and the cat-like Suzu Nekoyama. The special was created to capitalize on the popularity of the television run, offering fans an extended narrative focused on a hot spring trip that highlights the comedic and contrasting personalities of the two protagonists.

The character designs were overseen by the animation team to maintain the simplified, expressive aesthetic characteristic of the original manga source material. The production focused on adapting the lighthearted, episodic nature of the comic into a fluid visual format. Upon its release, the special was well-received by the existing fanbase of the series, who appreciated the expansion of the show's hallmark gentle humor and the deeper exploration of the main characters' evolving bond within a classic anime excursion setting.
