Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san

Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san originated as a four-panel manga series by Kuzushiro, serialized in Ichijinsha's Comic Yuri Hime magazine beginning in 2011. The series centers on the unlikely friendship and budding romance between a dog-like girl named Yachiyo Inugami and a cat-like girl named Suzu Nekoyama. Its transition to a television anime format in 2014 was produced by Dream Creation and animated by Seven, reflecting the era's trend of short-form, slice-of-life adaptations tailored for rapid digital consumption.

The anime adaptation was directed by Shinpei Nagai, who aimed to distill the manga's comedic pacing and character-driven interactions into a series of brief, high-energy vignettes. Character designs were adapted to capture the distinct personality traits of the leads—Inugami's exuberant loyalty and Nekoyama's aloof, tsundere tendencies. Upon release, the series was received as a lighthearted contribution to the yuri comedy genre, noted primarily for its brisk runtime and the clear, expressive visual shorthand used to convey the protagonists' contrasting temperaments.
