Intrusion

Intrusion, a 1989 science fiction tabletop role-playing game, emerged during the late 1980s surge of cyberpunk-themed media. Published by Game Designers' Workshop, the game was developed in a period when the genre was rapidly defining its aesthetic through literature and film. It was designed to offer players a gritty, high-tech, low-life narrative experience, focusing on corporate espionage and the subversive nature of underground hackers operating within near-future urban landscapes.

The game is characterized by its stark, minimalist cover art and focus on tactical mechanical systems that reflect the cold, utilitarian philosophy of its setting. While it did not reach the widespread cultural penetration of larger franchises like Shadowrun, it remains a notable artifact of the era's design philosophy. Critics and hobbyists of the time recognized it for its commitment to thematic immersion, though its complex ruleset often limited its reach to dedicated groups of tabletop enthusiasts.
