Where it came from
Isuca originated as a supernatural action manga series written and illustrated by Osamu Takahashi, which began serialization in Kadokawa Shoten's Young Ace magazine in 2009. The narrative follows Shinichiro Asano, a high school student who becomes involved in the world of spirit extermination after encountering Sakuya Shimazu, the head of a prestigious family of exorcists. The series blends traditional occult themes with modern school-life tropes, focusing on the dynamic between its lead characters as they battle various otherworldly entities.
The 2015 television anime adaptation was produced by Studio ARMS and directed by Akira Iwanaga. In transitioning the source material to the screen, the studio focused on maintaining the series' balance of supernatural combat and character-driven drama. While the anime was a notable project for the studio during the mid-2010s, it received a mixed reception from viewers and critics, who often highlighted the visual choices and pacing of the adaptation compared to the original manga's established aesthetic.
