Jian Gu

Jian Gu is an original net animation produced by the Chinese streaming platform iQIYI, emerging from a period of significant investment by the studio to expand its library of high-quality, domestic 2D animation. It represents the studio's attempt to capture a more mature, stylistically distinct audience by blending traditional wuxia themes with contemporary visual storytelling techniques. The production was aimed at distinguishing iQIYI's offerings from the more conventional, mass-market animated series that dominated the platform at the time.

The creative direction of the project focused on an aesthetic that pays homage to classic Chinese illustration while maintaining a fluid, cinematic motion style characteristic of modern web-based animation. While the specific lead animators often operate within the broader iQIYI in-house studio system, the series was generally received as a technically competent entry that highlights the evolving standard of web-first animations in China. It stands as a notable example of the studio's broader efforts to cultivate proprietary intellectual properties in the competitive digital streaming landscape.
