Where it came from
Jian Ke, or Sword Dynasty, is an original net animation produced by Shengying Animation, which debuted in the mid-2010s to capitalize on the rising popularity of Chinese web literature. Based on the widely read cultivation novel by Wu Jian, the series was designed to showcase advancements in domestic 3D animation techniques, aiming to provide a visually dynamic representation of the wuxia and xianxia genres for a younger, digitally native audience.
The production sought to balance intricate sword-fighting choreography with the complex world-building typical of the source material. By utilizing motion capture and refined rendering software, the studio aimed for a cinematic aesthetic that stood out within the competitive landscape of streaming platforms. Upon its release, the series received attention for its ambitious visual scale, helping to establish Shengying Animation as a significant player in the growing market for high-fidelity Chinese fantasy animation.
