Where it came from
Jimoto Saikou! was produced by studio MAPPA as a promotional animation short designed to showcase the charm and regional appeal of Japan's various prefectures. Released as an ONA (Original Net Animation), the project functioned as a vibrant visual love letter to local landscapes and cultures, utilizing the studio's characteristic fluid animation style to highlight the unique atmosphere of small-town life in contrast to urban centers.
The production sought to emphasize cultural pride and local identity through character-driven storytelling, with the art direction focusing on lush, authentic environmental details. While intended as a short-form experience rather than a long-form series, the project was generally well-received by fans of the studio for its high aesthetic quality and its earnest, lighthearted portrayal of regional idiosyncrasies.
