Kaiketsu Zorori no Dragon Taiji

Kaiketsu Zorori no Dragon Taiji was produced in 1989 by VAP as a direct-to-video adaptation of Yutaka Hara's popular children's book series. Released during the early years of the franchise, this OVA served to introduce the cunning fox protagonist, Zorori, and his sidekicks to a broader audience through animation. It captures the lighthearted, mischievous spirit of the original literary source material, focusing on the character's signature blend of trickery and ambition.

The animation reflects the aesthetic sensibilities of late 1980s children's television, emphasizing character-driven comedy and simple, adventurous narratives. While Zorori would later see a massive resurgence through the long-running television series that began in 2004, this early OVA is viewed by enthusiasts as an important historical artifact of the franchise's origins. It established the visual foundation for the character, remaining a nostalgic touchstone for those who followed Hara's work since its inception.
