Kero Kero Keroppi no Kyouryuu ga Deta

Kero Kero Keroppi no Kyouryuu ga Deta, released in 1992, is an original video animation produced by Sanrio. The project was designed to expand the media presence of Keroppi, the adventurous frog character created by the studio in 1988, who had become a cornerstone of Sanrio’s character merchandise strategy during the late eighties and early nineties. The animation was crafted to appeal to young children, utilizing the bright, friendly aesthetic that defined the Sanrio brand at the time.

The production process was handled by the internal Sanrio animation team, which aimed to translate the simplicity of the character’s stationery and toy designs into a cohesive narrative format. By focusing on themes of curiosity and discovery, the studio sought to deepen the emotional connection between consumers and the character. Upon its release, the OVA served as a supplement to the extensive line of Keroppi school supplies and accessories that dominated the Japanese market, and it is remembered today as a nostalgic artifact of Sanrio's multimedia expansion during the era.
