Kero Kero Keroppi no Sora Tobu Yume no Fune

Released in 1992, Kero Kero Keroppi no Sora Tobu Yume no Fune is an original video animation produced by Sanrio. The project was conceived during a period when Sanrio was actively expanding the multimedia presence of its most popular characters, leveraging the direct-to-video market to strengthen the bond between the character and its core demographic of young children. As part of a series of animated shorts featuring Keroppi, the green frog from Donut Pond, this title served as a gentle, educational narrative designed to promote themes of friendship and imaginative exploration.

The animation reflects the hallmark aesthetic of early 1990s Sanrio productions, prioritizing soft color palettes and simplified character designs to remain approachable for its young audience. The visual style was overseen by the internal creative teams at Sanrio, who aimed to translate the static charm of the Keroppi character goods into a moving medium. Upon its release, the OVA was well-received within the domestic Japanese market, solidifying Keroppi's status as a foundational pillar of the Sanrio character lineup alongside Hello Kitty and Pochacco.
