Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo Special: Bakusou Ressha! Abashiri-hatsu Tokyo-yuki! Ryoutsu VS Kenpou Baa-san!

This special was produced in 2003 as part of the long-running Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo franchise, commonly known as Kochikame. Created by Osamu Akimoto, the series began its serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1976 and became a cultural staple in Japan. This particular special was developed to extend the chaotic energy of the main series into a standalone extended narrative, focusing on the comedic friction between the series' protagonist, Kankichi Ryoutsu, and the fan-favorite recurring character, Kenpou Baa-san.

The animation and direction for this installment followed the established aesthetic of the television adaptation produced by Studio Gallop. The design team sought to maintain the high-paced, slapstick style that defined the manga while utilizing the format of a television special to deliver more elaborate sequences. Upon its release, it was received as a quintessential example of the franchise's ability to blend absurdist humor with local Japanese folklore and regional character types, reinforcing the series' status as one of the most successful and enduring pillars of modern manga history.
