Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo Special: Dai Hard 2! Shijou Saitei no Kessen

Released in 1998, this television special is part of the long-running Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo franchise, commonly known as Kochikame. Created by Osamu Akimoto, the series centers on the misadventures of middle-aged police officer Kankichi Ryotsu in a local Tokyo neighborhood station. The special was produced by Studio Gallop during the height of the anime series' popularity in the late 1990s, aiming to translate the comedic, fast-paced energy of the manga into a longer format that allowed for more elaborate gags and character-driven scenarios.

The title of the special, Dai Hard 2! Shijou Saitei no Kessen, is a characteristically playful parody of the Hollywood action film Die Hard, reflecting the franchise's penchant for satirizing pop culture and contemporary trends. Directed by Noboru Takamoto, the production team utilized the distinct, expressive character designs established in the ongoing series to maintain continuity. It was generally received as a lighthearted expansion of the weekly show, celebrated by fans for its absurd humor and the chaotic interactions between the recurring cast of quirky neighborhood characters.
