Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo Special: Europe Oudan! Reiko Kyuushutsu Daisakusen

Released in 2002, this television special was produced as part of the long-running Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo franchise, commonly known as Kochikame. Adapted from Osamu Akimoto's incredibly prolific manga series, the special reflects the series' signature blend of slapstick comedy, police procedural parody, and character-driven hijinks centered on the eccentric Kankichi Ryotsu. By the early 2000s, the anime had firmly established itself as a staple of Japanese television, known for its ability to balance grounded neighborhood storytelling with increasingly outlandish, high-stakes adventures that frequently took the cast out of their typical Tokyo surroundings.

This specific installment, titled Europe Oudan! Reiko Kyuushutsu Daisakusen, follows the classic trope of sending the cast on an international excursion, placing the bumbling officers in a European setting to rescue their colleague, Reiko Akimoto. The narrative relies on the established dynamics between the main characters, utilizing the contrast between the modest setting of the Kameari police box and the globetrotting premise. It was crafted by the animation team at Studio Gallop, who maintained the visual consistency and expressive, exaggerated character designs that helped the series achieve its status as one of the most enduring sitcom-style anime in history.
