Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo Special: Giboshi-ke go Ikkou-sama IN Hawaiian Dai Panic

Released in 2003, this special installment stems from the long-running Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo franchise, commonly known as Kochikame. The series, created by Osamu Akimoto, began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1976 and became a cultural staple by blending slapstick comedy with the daily life of police officer Kankichi Ryotsu. This particular special focuses on the eccentric Giboshi family and chronicles their chaotic experiences during a trip to Hawaii, maintaining the series' signature brand of high-energy humor and satirical take on Japanese society.

The production of this special reflects the massive popularity of the anime adaptation, which aired from 1996 to 2004. By the early 2000s, the Kochikame franchise was a major multimedia success, with special episodes frequently used to explore side characters and elaborate, globe-trotting scenarios that diverged from the typical setting of the Kameari police box. The animation maintained the bright, distinct aesthetic associated with the series, focusing on rapid-fire comedic timing and the ensemble cast's absurd reactions to foreign environments, a style that kept the show consistently popular among domestic audiences.
