Macross Delta: Passionate Walküre

Macross Delta: Passionate Walküre was released in 2018 as a theatrical reimagining of the 2016 television series Macross Delta. Produced by Satelight, the film condenses the events of the original anime series while restructuring the narrative to emphasize the musical performances of the tactical music unit, Walküre. This approach reflects the franchise's long-standing tradition of blending high-stakes mecha combat with pop-idol culture, a hallmark of the Macross brand since its inception in the 1980s.

The film’s design retains the distinct visual identity established by character designer Chisato Mita and mechanical designer Shoji Kawamori. By focusing on the emotional resonance of the songs, the production aimed to provide fans with a more cohesive perspective on the series' central conflict and the evolution of its protagonists. Upon release, it was well-received by the established Macross community for its updated animation sequences and enhanced musical arrangements, serving as both a refresher for existing viewers and a concentrated introduction to the Delta storyline.
