Magi: Adventure of Sinbad

Magi: Adventure of Sinbad serves as a prequel to the popular Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic series, focusing on the formative years of the charismatic adventurer Sinbad. Produced by the studio Lay-duce and released in 2016, the series was adapted from the manga written by Shinobu Ohtaka and illustrated by Yoshifumi Ohtera. The narrative explores Sinbad's journey through various dungeons and his rise from humble origins to become a powerful king, providing critical context for his complex motivations and political alliances in the original series.

The production sought to maintain the high-fantasy aesthetic established in the main series while refining the character designs to reflect Sinbad's younger, more impetuous personality. Directed by Yoshikazu Miyao, the adaptation aimed to balance intense action sequences with the character-driven humor that defined the franchise. Upon its release, it was generally well-received by fans of the source material for its detailed world-building and its ability to flesh out a beloved supporting character, successfully bridging the gap between an origin story and a standalone epic.
