Where it came from
Released in 2017, the MAFF × Chobitto Zukan series was produced by Kachidoki Studio as a promotional collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan. The project utilized the whimsical world of Nagatake’s Chobitto Zukan—a series focused on tiny, fantastical creatures living in everyday environments—to educate the public on the importance of food education and agricultural awareness.
The animation features the character Kobito-zukan, rendered in the studio's signature minimalist, comedic style. By placing these surreal creatures within the context of Japanese farming and food consumption, the collaboration aimed to make governmental agricultural policy more accessible and engaging for younger audiences, effectively blending educational messaging with the popular aesthetic of Japanese micro-creature media.
