Magi: Adventure of Sinbad (OVA)

Magi: Adventure of Sinbad was released as a series of five original video animation (OVA) episodes beginning in 2014, produced by studio Lay-duce as a prequel to the popular Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic series. The production was intended to explore the formative years of the fan-favorite character Sinbad, chronicling his rise from a humble island boy to the powerful King of Sindria. By focusing on his journey through various dungeons and the acquisition of his Djinn, the project aimed to provide a deeper exploration of the franchise's world-building and Sinbad's complex moral evolution.

The animation design sought to maintain the high-fantasy aesthetic established in the primary series while emphasizing Sinbad’s adventurous spirit and growth. Yoshikazu Miyao directed the OVA series, prioritizing a balance between intense action sequences and the lighthearted, often humorous character dynamics that defined the original manga by Shinobu Ohtaka. The reception was largely positive among existing fans of the franchise, who appreciated the expansion of the lore and the focused narrative arc centered on Sinbad's ambition and leadership.
