Magical Project S

Magical Project S, known in Japan as Slayers Special, was produced by the studio J.C.Staff and animated by APPP in 1996. It serves as a spin-off to the popular Slayers fantasy franchise, moving away from the high-stakes adventures of the main series to focus on a lighter, more comedic tone. The series was designed to expand the lore surrounding the protagonist Lina Inverse and her companion Naga the White Serpent, acting as a narrative bridge between the established original video animation releases and the broader television canon.

The character designs were handled by Takahiro Yoshimatsu, who sought to translate the whimsical and energetic aesthetic of the original light novels into a cohesive visual style suitable for the medium of television. The series was received as a charming supplement to the primary franchise, praised for its self-contained plots and the enduring chemistry between the two lead characters.
