Where it came from
Meng Yue Jingling, known in English as Spiritpact, is an animated series produced by the Chinese studio B.CMAY PICTURES. It emerged as part of the growing domestic animation industry in China, specifically targeting the digital streaming market. The series adapted a popular web manhua, drawing from the trends of the xianxia and boys' love genres that gained significant traction on platforms like Tencent Video during the mid-2010s.
The production sought to balance supernatural action with character-driven drama, reflecting the studio's focus on fluid character animation and atmospheric settings. Upon its release, it garnered a dedicated international following, particularly in Japan, where it received an adapted broadcast. Its design language prioritizes ornate, traditional-inspired attire set against modern and mystical urban landscapes, a stylistic choice intended to ground its fantastical premise in a recognizable aesthetic framework.
