Menghuan Xiyou: Tianming Zhi Zhan

Menghuan Xiyou: Tianming Zhi Zhan is an animated series based on the massively popular Chinese massively multiplayer online role-playing game, Fantasy Westward Journey. Developed by NetEase, the franchise has long served as a cultural touchstone in China, blending traditional Chinese mythology with accessible fantasy archetypes. This ONA series was produced as part of an ongoing effort to expand the intellectual property beyond its gaming roots and into the medium of serialized narrative animation, aiming to deepen the player base's emotional connection to the game's established characters.

The visual design of the series leans heavily on contemporary 3D cel-shaded animation techniques, a standard choice for high-budget domestic Chinese game adaptations. The production focused on replicating the distinct aesthetic of the game's character models while enhancing the fluidity of action sequences to suit a cinematic format. Reception was largely concentrated within the existing player community, who viewed the project as a high-fidelity tribute to the game's lore rather than a standalone departure from its source material.
