Mystery of Nonomura Hospital

Mystery of Nonomura Hospital was released in 1996 as a two-part original video animation produced by Pink Pineapple. The project originated as an adaptation of an adult visual novel developed by ELF Corporation, which was renowned for its narrative-heavy approach to the medium. During the mid-1990s, the studio sought to capitalize on the popularity of mystery and suspense-themed eroge by translating these interactive stories into the linear format of direct-to-video animation.

The production sought to balance traditional suspense tropes with the studio's signature mature content, following the investigation of a medical facility shadowed by dark secrets. While the animation style was typical of the era’s low-budget OVA market, the source material’s intricate plot and atmospheric setting allowed the adaptation to stand out within the genre. It received a modest reception, primarily appreciated by fans of the original game for its visual representation of the game's key sequences.
