Miaka and Taka (Tamahome's reborn out-of-the-book self) return to the Universe of the Four Gods to try and restore Tamahome's memories to Taka. This is not as easy as it sounds, however, when the evil Tenkou shows up to rain on their parade. He manages to thwart most of their attempts at getting Taka's memories back, and uses his newfound power to summon the Gods outside the book.

Where it came from
Mysterious Play OVA 2 was produced by Studio Pierrot in 1997 as a direct continuation of the highly successful Fushigi Yûgi television series. Following the conclusion of the main anime adaptation, these three episodes were commissioned to adapt the remainder of Yuu Watase's original manga source material, specifically focusing on the Eikou-den arc. The production served to provide fans with a more comprehensive resolution to the narrative arcs that the original series could not fully cover within its standard broadcast run.
The creative direction remained consistent with the aesthetic established by the television series, maintaining the dramatic romance and fantasy motifs that defined the franchise. By utilizing the original production team at Studio Pierrot, the OVA managed to retain the character designs and visual tone that resonated with the demographic of the late 1990s shojo anime audience. While it faced the challenges inherent in compressing extensive manga chapters into a limited episode count, it was received as a necessary completion of the saga for dedicated viewers.
