Where it came from
Ninja Hattori-kun: Nin Nin Furusato Daisakusen no Maki was released in 1983 as the second feature-length film based on the popular manga series by Fujiko A. Fujio. Produced by Shin-Ei Animation during the height of the franchise's popularity, the film extended the television series' premise, which centers on a young ninja from the Iga clan who moves to Tokyo to live with an ordinary schoolboy named Kenichi.
The film maintains the character designs established by the source material, which emphasize a blend of traditional ninja tropes with the lighthearted, comedic aesthetic typical of early eighties children's anime. As a theatrical entry, it was designed to capitalize on the sustained success of the anime series, offering fans a more expansive narrative scope while remaining faithful to the show's core themes of friendship and the humorous contrast between supernatural skills and everyday suburban life.
