Where it came from
Released in 1985, this cinematic crossover was produced by Shin-Ei Animation as part of a series of double-feature theatrical films that paired popular properties from manga author Fujiko F. Fujio. During this era, the studio frequently utilized its stable of iconic characters to create seasonal event films, blending the whimsical, gadget-focused world of Perman with the historical, martial-arts-inspired premise of Ninja Hattori-kun.
The film was designed as a lighthearted entertainment piece for children, centering on a confrontation between Hattori’s ninja techniques and the supernatural elements introduced by a mysterious egg. Like other collaborative works from the period, the production prioritized maintaining the distinct visual aesthetics of the two source manga while merging their narrative universes into a singular, fast-paced adventure that echoed the success of the studio’s simultaneous television broadcasts.
