Where it came from
Released in 1984, Ninja Hattori-kun + Perman: Chounouryoku Wars represents a unique crossover event in the Japanese animation landscape, pairing two of the most iconic characters from the manga artist Fujiko F. Fujio. Produced by Shogakukan and animated by Shin-Ei Animation, the film capitalized on the massive cross-generational appeal of the Ninja Hattori-kun and Perman franchises, which were staples of the children's television programming block at the time.
The production sought to blend the comedic stealth elements of Hattori-kun with the superhero tropes of Perman, creating a collaborative narrative that was widely received as a celebratory spectacle for fans of the Fujio universe. The design and direction maintained the aesthetic consistency of the ongoing television series, ensuring the characters felt familiar to audiences while utilizing the larger budget of a feature film to provide a more ambitious, fast-paced cinematic experience.
