Where it came from
The OTMGirls no YOKIYOKI Channel serves as a digital extension of the OTMGirls, an idol group featured in the anime series Oshi ga Budoukan Ittekuretara Shinu. Released in 2020 by the studio Fanworks, this ONA special was produced to deepen the parasocial connection between the fictional characters and their audience, utilizing the medium of a web-based birthday broadcast to mimic real-world idol marketing tactics.
The animation reflects the aesthetic established by the broader Oshi ga Budoukan franchise, emphasizing the modest yet earnest charm of underground idols. By stepping outside the traditional narrative structure of the main series, the special allows for a more intimate character study. It was received by fans as a thoughtful supplement that bridges the gap between the show’s diegetic idol world and the actual viewers, staying true to the series' exploration of dedicated fandom.
