Where it came from
Panpaka Pants O-New! was produced in 2015 by DLE Inc. as a continuation of the multimedia franchise centered on Panpaka, a piglet character who famously loves wearing different styles of underwear. The series originated from a promotional campaign for a Shizuoka-based clothing store and evolved into a popular cultural icon in Japan, characterized by its catchy songs and simple, repetitive animations designed to appeal to younger audiences while maintaining an ironic, surreal sense of humor.
The animation style, overseen by the creative team at DLE, emphasizes a minimal, flat aesthetic that prioritizes rhythmic visuals and character-based sketches. This specific installment, O-New!, aimed to refresh the brand by introducing new musical numbers and scenarios that kept the character’s upbeat personality at the forefront. Upon its release, the series was well-received within its niche, cementing the character's status as a recognizable mascot known for its infectious dance moves and lighthearted themes.
