Where it came from
Panpaka Pants O NEW-san was produced by DLE Inc. as the fourth season in the enduring Panpaka Pants franchise. The series debuted in 2017, continuing the story of a curious, underwear-loving piglet named Panpaka, who first rose to popularity through viral shorts. This iteration maintained the series' signature blend of surreal humor and rhythmic musical segments, designed to appeal to both young children and an adult audience that appreciated its quirky, minimalist aesthetic.
The character design was created by Frogman, the creative force behind DLE’s distinctively lo-fi animation style. The visuals prioritize comedic timing and simple, catchy transitions over traditional animation complexity. While the series emerged from a digital-first landscape, its transition to television solidified its status as a staple of Japanese character merchandise, reflecting the studio's successful model of integrating short-form entertainment with lifestyle branding.
